"In 2013, I started with one car outside the Durdur Building. Everyone said a real rental business would never work in Hargeisa — no contracts, no insurance, no trust. I went to bank after bank, looking for funding and investment. Every single one turned me down. Not one believed it could work. Today, those same banks give me whatever I ask for. The government, the NGOs, the biggest enterprises in Somaliland — they all come to us now. But I will never forget the regular customers who trusted us first, when we had nothing but one car and a handshake. They are the real foundation of this company. And today, we are the first fully digital car rental company in Somaliland — because we chose to build it the right way, from the ground up."

The journey

Twelve years. One direction: forward.

  1. 2013

    One car, one phone number.

    Khaalid Abdirahman opens Modern Multi Services with a single sedan and a hand-written contract. It is the first car rental company in Hargeisa to use written agreements, real receipts and a proper customer hotline.

  2. 2016

    The hard years prove us.

    Drought, fuel shortages and a difficult economy push many small businesses to close. We service every car on schedule, honour every booking and answer every call. No layoffs. No shortcuts. No price spikes for the customer.

  3. 2019

    We bring rental online.

    We become the first rental company in Somaliland to accept Zaad, E-dahab and Premier Wallet. Bilingual contracts are signed on the customer's phone. Every vehicle is photo-inspected at handover and return — the standard the industry now follows.

  4. 2022

    Forty vehicles. Three classes.

    The fleet grows to forty cars across Luxury, Mini SUV and Sedan tiers — serving embassies, NGOs, contractors, weddings, family trips and daily commuters across the country.

  5. 2026

    A platform, not just a fleet.

    A 24/7 call centre on 3032, an online booking flow that takes five minutes, a CRM and accounting system built in-house, and a team of eight professionals — the reference point for how modern car rental should work in the Horn of Africa.
